Softball Loses Two at BLC Triangular
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC softball team lost a pair of games at Bethany Monday, losing game one to Bethany 1-0 and game two 6-2 to Finlandia.
The Knights held Bethany to one run, but were able to muster only four hits in a 1-0 loss to the Vikings in game one.
Laura Miller pitched a gem for the Knights, allowing seven hits and allowing the one run in six innings of work, striking out three. She fell to 1-4 with the loss.
The Vikings scored the lone run In the bottom of the fifth inning off Miller, and then held off the Knights in the final two innings for the win.
Madeline Scott, Emily Waldek, Katie Scherer and Jessica Henning each had one hit for the Knights.
MLC was unable to hold on to a two-run lead in a 6-2 loss to Finlandia in game two.
Miller kept Finlandia scoreless through five, but allowed five consecutive two-out hits in the sixth inning that plated three for Finlandia, and then three more runs on three hits in the seventh.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI singles from Sarah Free and Waldek, but were outhit 14-9 for the game.
Waldek and Karla Opperman had three hits apiece to lead the Knights, while Free had two hits and scored a run.
With the losses, MLC dropped to 1-9 on the season, 0-1 in conference play. The Knights will return to action on April 5, when they travel to UM-Morris for a double header starting at 3 p.m.
