MLC jumped out to an early three-run lead, but was unable to close it out in a 7-6 loss to Northland.

After a run in the first inning by Northland, Sarah Free put the Knights on the board with a home run in the bottom of the first.

After a run by the Lumberjills in the second, the Knights took the lead with three runs in the third on runs batted in by Katie Scherer and Amber Krause, and then tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single by Free.

Northland came roaring back in the fifth, scoring four times off MLC starter Laura Miller, and then added an insurance run in the sixth inning to put the deficit to 7-5.

The Knights scored once in the seventh on a double by Jessica Henning, but were unable to score her from third base, giving the Lumberjills the win.

[St. Scholastica 7, MLC 2]

Sarah Free hit her second home run of the day, but it would not be enough in a 7-2 loss to regular season UMAC champions St. Scholastica.

Free hit her home run in the second inning to lead off the bottom of the first inning for the second game in a row to tie the game at 1-1 after one inning.

From there, the Saints' offense took over, scoring once in the third and fourth innings, and then putting the game away with a four-run sixth inning.

Free started the game for MLC, going seven innings and allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits.

After the two losses, MLC dropped to 8-20 on the season and 7-12 in league play.

The Knights will return to action at Northland Saturday (April 28) against Crown at 12 p.m.
