Softball Drops Two against Loras
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Martin Luther College softball team lost both games of a double header against Loras by the scores of 8-2 and 15-3 Saturday afternoon.
The Knights were made to pay for six errors in an 8-2 game one loss.
Kathryn Marquardt started the game on the mound for MLC, pitching a complete game and allowing three earned runs out of the eight total runs scored against her. She struck out four to go with nine hits allowed as she fell to 2-1 on the season in defeat.
Emily Waldek was the hitting star for MLC, reaching base four times thanks to four singles. Waldek and Emily Wessel drove in the two MLC runs, while Caitlin Seastrand and Kate Wierzbicki scored the two runs.
Loras scored at least once in all five innings on the way to a 15-3 game two win over the Knights.
Waldek struggled on the mound, allowing 15 runs (12 earned) off ten hits and eight walks, and fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
Waldek would continue her strong day at the plate in game two with two more hits, including a solo home run in the second inning, and two runs scored. Wessel also added two hits, while MacCartney Mendolla and Sara Willems each had one hit.
MLC fell to 5-2 on the season with the two defeats, while Loras improved its record to 10-8 with the pair of wins.
The Knights are scheduled to return to action tomorrow (Sunday, March 30) when they play at Cornell College in a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
