Opperman Named First Team All-UMAC
ST. PAUL, Minn. – MLC softball player Karla Opperman was named First Team All-UMAC Monday by the conference coaches. Sarah Free and Katie Kretsch both received honorable mention, and were named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
Opperman tied the school record with six home runs this season, all of them in conference play while playing in 32 of the Knights’ 34 games, and set the new MLC record for home runs in a career with 13. The junior catcher also hit .293 on the season with 23 RBI and a .585 slugging percentage.
Free hit lead off for MLC the entire season, starting 33 games at either second base or pitcher. She led the team with 16 doubles (ten in conference play), a .389 batting average, 26 runs, 44 hits, 28 RBI, a .430 on-base percentage, and a .628 slugging percentage. In the field, Free with a .981 fielding percentage.
Kretsch finished the season strong, belting four home runs in the final week of conference play to give her five on the season. She batted .385 on the season, with a .412 batting average in conference play. Kretsch finished with a .989 fielding percentage on defense on her way to being named to the All-Defensive team for the second time.[ALL-UMAC]
