Knights Take One of Three at NCU Tournament
PLYMOUTH, Minn. - The MLC softball team picked up its first win of the season Friday by the score of 11-10 against Presentation, but then lost games to North Central and Maranatha, both by the score of 5-1.
MLC allowed nine runs in the bottom of the first inning against Presentation, but came all the way back to win the game 11-10.
Starting pitcher Sara Willems struggled, allowing nine runs in .2 innings of work, but Laura Miller came up big in relief, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing only one unearned run. She struck out five and allowed only three hits to pick up the win.
Sarah Free finished the game 1-4 with three RBI, and also set the new school record for doubles in her career with 35.
Jessica Henning hit her second home run of the season for the Knights, and finished 3-4 on the day.
The Knights fell behind 5-0 and weren't able to get enough going offensively 5-1 loss to North Central.
MLC was outhit 9-4 for the game, Madeline Scott leading the Knights' offense with two hits in the game.
Free pitched six innings for MLC, allowing all five runs (four earned) as she picked up the loss.
MLC left ten runners on base in a 5-1 loss to Maranatha in the final game of the tournament.
Free had four hits for MLC, but the Knights were outhit 11-8 for the game, and left at least one runner on base in each of the last six innings.
Miller got the start on the mound, allowing five runs (all earned) and picked up the loss.
The Knights, who return to action on Thursday, March 22, against Macalester, dropped to 1-5 on the season after the three games.
