Knights Lose Two at BLC
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC softball team held late leads in both games of a double header at Bethany Tuesday afternoon, but lost them both to the Vikings by the scores of 7-6 and 6-5.
Sarah Free had two hits and two RBI in game two, but it wasn't enough to get the Knights a win over BLC
Bethany came back from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs to surge past MLC 7-6 in game one.
MLC fell behind 4-0 early, but came back to take a 5-4 lead after scoring five runs in the fourth inning with the help of four BLC errors. Stephanie Punke, Andrea Biedenbender and Elizabeth Henke each had RBI hits in the inning.
After the Vikings tied the score in the fifth inning, MLC took a 6-5 lead on a solo home run from Punke, her first of the season, but were not able to hold down the Vikings in the bottom half of the inning.
Laura Miller picked up the loss on the mound for the Knights, dropping to 1-4 on the season after allowing all seven runs (all earned) on ten hits while striking out three.
Bethany overcame a one-run deficit in he seventh inning with a walk-off home run by Ashley Jensen to beat MLC 6-5 in game two.
Sarah Free went the distance on the mound for the Knights, allowing six runs (all earned) on 11 hits in as she fell to 2-5 on the season.
Free did her part with the bat, finishing 2-4 in game two, which included a bases loaded double in the top of the sixth inning that gave MLC the lead at 5-4. Megan Zamzow and Alison Filter also had two hits in the game for MLC, with Zamzow adding two runs.
With the two losses, MLC dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in UMAC play, while Bethany improved to 4-7 on the season and 1-0 in conference.
MLC will return to action Saturday, April 9, when it travels to Presentation for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
