Vikings Top Knights 2-1
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team lost an important game in the UMAC postseason race by the score of 2-1 at Bethany Tuesday night.
The Knights, who entered the night one point ahead of BLC in the standings for the fourth and final spot in the UMAC Postseason Tournament, now trail the Vikings by two points with three games to play.
Bethany jumped out to an early lead in the sixth minute of play, and then added a second goal late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the half. The Vikings outshot the Knights 15-4 in the first 45 minutes of play.
MLC picked up the defense in the second half, holding the Vikings to six shots, but was only able to muster one goal in the 84 minute when a Bethany player hit into the net for an own goal.
Bethany Schultz and Hannah Janke each had two total shots and one shot on goal, while Allison Snyder saved seven of the nine shots she faced in goal for the Knights.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the UMAC, while Bethany improved to 7-5-1 on the season and 3-3-3 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Friday, October 21, when it hosts Northland for a game set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
