Strong Second Half Leads Women Past Storm
NEW ULM, Minn. - First-year midfielder Hannah Mattek scored two goals in the MLC women's soccer team's 4-1 win over Crown Saturday.
Crown took the early lead when Natalie Worrest opened the scoring in the 26th minute to give the Storm the 1-0 lead, but the Knights answered in the 40th minute when Alydia Lee scored to tie the game at 1-1.
The second half was all Knights, as Hannah Mattek scored a pair in the 50th and 56th minutes, respectively, to give the Knights a 3-1 advantage. Two minutes later, Bethany Schutltz scored the fourth and final goal for the Knights to go ahead 4-1.
The Knights outshot the Storm 16-7 on goal, with Mattek leading the onslaught with six on goal. Linsay Sandwith stopped six of the seven shots she face in goal.
With the win the Knights improved to 7-7-1 overall, with a 4-4-1 conference record. The Storm drop to 2-10 overall, and 1-8 in conference.
The Knights next play on October 22, when they head to Northland.
