MLC Women Lose in Overtime at WLC
MILWAUKEE – The women’s soccer team started the season with a tough 2-1 overtime loss at Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday afternoon.
The first half ended in a scoreless tie, but the Knights got on the board when Casey Sauer scored off a pass from Emily Marggraf in the 56th minute of play.
The Warriors tied the game in the 63rd minute off a corner kick when an MLC defender put it in the Knights' net for an own goal, forcing overtime at the 1-1.
In overtime, WLC scored in the 92nd minute to win the game on a goal by Heather Nielsen.
WLC outshot the Knights 19-7, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal. Keely Keese stopped eight shots in net for MLC, while Bethany Schultz led the Knights with three shots on goal.
With the loss, MLC started the season 0-1, while WLC improved to 1-0-1.
The Knights will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 5, when they travel to Gustavus for a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
