Knights Fall 7-0 to Gusties
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team was unable to sustain enough offense to hang with high-powered Gustavus in a 7-0 loss Wednesday at Knight Field.
The Knights were outshot 44-5 overall, and 19-4 for the game, but were able to make things closer in the second half, when they picked up four total shots, three of which were on net.
Gustavus took command of the game early, scoring in the seventh minute to gain the lead, and then tacking on four more in the first half to take a 5-0 halftime lead.
The Gusties added two more for insurance in the second half past MLC goalkeeper Allison Snyder, who stopped 12 shots in the game.
Bethany Schultz led MLC with two shots on goal, while Kadie Drake and Linda Kenyon each added one.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-1 on the season, while Gustavus improved to 3-1.
The Knights will return to the pitch at Knight Field on Friday, September 10, when they host Waldorf. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., and will be immediately followed by the men's game against Waldorf.
