Cougars Top Knights 3-2
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's soccer team was unable to overcome an early second half goal in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota, Morris Friday at Knight Field.
The Knights fell behind 1-0 in the fifth minute of play, but came back to take the lead on goals from Bethany Schultz and Hannah Mattek. Schultz's goal came from outside the box off a pass from Mattek in the 15th minute, while Mattek's goal came in the 20th minute from Schultz on a corner kick.
The Cougars were able to tie the game at 2-2 in the 31st minute on a goal from Leah Parker, and Parker then scored the game winner in the 48th minute of play.
After the Cougars held a slight edge in shots in the first half at 8-7, they oustshot MLC 10-0 in the second half, controlling the play for long stretches in the MLC half.
Schultz led the Knights with three shots on goal, while Allison Snyder finished with six saves in goal for MLC.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 7-11-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the UMAC, while UMM improved to 8-8-2 on the season and 8-3-2 in league play.
MLC will return to action for the final time tomorrow (October 30) when it hosts Presentation for a 2 p.m. game at Knight Field.
