Women Set School Record with Win over PC
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team set a school record with its 15th win of the season by the score of 83-60 over Presentation Saturday.
The Knights held a nine-point lead after one half of play, but weren't pleased after allowing the Saints to shoot 48 percent from the field in the half.
MLC took over the game to start the second with a 30-5 spurt to start the half that lasted nearly 12 minutes, with the the Knights scoring 19 consecutive points at one point to put the game out of doubt.
The MLC defense shut down the Saints in the second half, holding them to 22 percent shooting from the floor and forcing nine turnovers.
Erica Babinec led MLC with 22 points, and also grabbed ten rebounds and finished with five steals. Defensively, she also helped the Knights shut down Presentation's offensive star Hannah Phillips, who was held without a field goal after scoring 18 points in the first half.
Kirsten Michael and Brittney Gossen each had 13 points off the bench for MLC, with Gossen also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out a game-high five assists. Amanda Burk joined them in double figures with ten points.
With the win, MLC improved to 15-6 on the season and 9-1 in the UMAC, while PC dropped to 3-15 overall and 2-8 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, February 10, when they travel to St. Scholastica in a game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
