Women Secure Top Two Seed with Win
ST. Bonifacius, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team secured a top two seed and a home playoff game in the first round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament with a 66-55 win at Crown Friday night.
MLC senior Sarah Free also had a day to remember, as she became the fourth player in program history to score 800 points for her career, and moved into third place all time at MLC with 810 career points.
Free scored 19 points in the game off the bench to lead the Knights, and was joined in double figures by Amanda Burk and Erica Babinec with 16 and ten points, respectively.
The game was never in doubt for the Knights, who led by 14 points at the half, and then took a lead as big as 21 points in the second half before a late run by the Storm cut the final margin to 11 points.
With the win, MLC improved to 17-7 overall and 11-2 in the UMAC, while Crown dropped to 1-21 on the season with the loss.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, February 18), when it plays at Northwestern in the regular season finale. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
