Women Move to 3-0 in Conference with Win over CSS
NEW ULM, Minn. – The MLC women’s basketball team finished off a sweep of three conference opponents this week with a 65-50 win over St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon.
MLC held the Saints to 32.1 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers, while also dominating the rebounding with a 48-37 edge for the game. Amanda Burk led the way with a game-high 12 rebounds, while Brittney Gossen had nine from her guard position.
The first half featured four ties and 11 lead changes, but the Knights took control late, taking a four-point lead heading into the break at 28-24 with the held of 13 points from Erica Babinec.
The Knights controlled the second half, never relinquishing the lead and building it as high as 20 points before closing it out with the final 15-point margin.
Babinec led the way offensively with 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, while Alex Anthon and Hannah Hackbarth each added 12 points.
With the win, MLC improved to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the UMAC, while CSS dropped to 3-11 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
MLC will return to action on Friday, January 20, when it travels to Presentation for a 5:30 p.m. game.
