Women Close First Half with Loss to Dordt
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team finished its early portion of the schedule with a 69-61 loss to Dordt College Thursday night.
The Knights trailed 34-23 at the half, and the Defenders threatened to put the game away for good in the second half as they built their lead to 27 points at 60-33 with 8:48 to play in the game before MLC started to come back.
MLC cut the lead into single digits at 64-55 with 1:58 to play in the game thanks to a 22-4 run. They would cut the Dordt lead all the way down to six inside the final minute, but weren't able to complete the comeback as the Defenders made their foul shots down the stretch to secure the win.
Hannah Hackbarth finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Knights. Hackbarth finished 7-16 shooting overall, including 5-12 from beyond the three-point arc.
She was joined in double figures by Leah Nass, who scored all 12 of her points in the second half to go along with her team-best nine rebounds.
The Knights fell to 3-7 on the season in defeat, while Dordt improved to 7-6 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, January 11, when it hosts Bethany Lutheran College.
