Viterbo Beats MLC Women 60-41
LA CROSSE, Wis. - A slow start to the second half led to a 60-41 loss at Viterbo for the MLC women's basketball team Wednesday.
The Knights trailed for much of the first half, but made a run before the half to cut the deficit to one at 25-24 going into the break.
The V-Hawks took control early in the second half, outscoring MLC 18-4 in the first 11:48 of the half as they held MLC to two made field goals during that stretch before a Hannah Hackbarth three-pointer ended the run with just over eight minutes left in the game.
The Viterbo defense continued to smother the MLC offense, holding the Knights to six field goals in the second half as the V-Hawks closed out the win.
MLC played strong defense for much of the game, holding Viterbo to 32.8 percent shooting from the field and forcing 19 turnovers, but just wasn't able to generate enough offense. The Knights finished the game shooting 27.1 percent from the floor, and committed 26 turnovers.
Alex Anthon finished with a team-high nine points and also grabbed ten rebounds. Rebecca Engelbrecht led the team with a career-best 11 rebounds.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-4 to start the season, while Viterbo improved to 4-5.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, December 1, when they host Dakota State for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
