Tough Defense Leads Knights to Win
ABERDEEN, S.D. - The MLC women's basketball team rode a strong second half defense to extend a first half lead into a ten-point win Saturday at Presentation by the score of 76-66.
The Knights held a three-point halftime lead at 41-38, and then outscored the Saints 35-28 in the second half, holding PC to just 27 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent shooting from beyond the three-point arc in the final stanza.
MLC shot 45.9 percent from the field for the game, and went 8-16 from downtown. The Knights also won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Saints 43-35, and outscoring them in second-chance points 13-4.
Erica Babinec continued her hot shooting from earlier in the week, leading the Knights with a game-high 25 points on 11-18 shooting. She also added six rebounds.
Sarah Free finished the game with 18 points with the help of four three-pointers, and also added four assists, while Kadie Drake scored 11 points. Emily Boldt had 12 rebounds and three blocks to go along with her six points.
With the win, MLC improved to 7-12 on the season, and 5-5 in the UMAC, while Presentation dropped to 8-13 overall and 3-7 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Friday, February 11, when it hosts St. Scholastica in a double header of men's and women's basketball starting at 5:30 p.m.
