Second Half Surge Leads Vikings Past Knights
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team was tied at the half in the conference opener at Bethany, but struggled in the second half in an 84-60 loss to the Vikings Tuesday night.
The Knights came out strong, and were tied 32-32 at the half, with the help of 14 points from Erica Babinec, but the Vikings came out firing in the second half, while MLC struggled on both ends of the floor.
MLC finished the game shooting 32.4 percent from the field, including a 28.6 percent clip in the second half. Bethany shot 55.6 percent for the game, and shot 66.7 percent in the second half. The Vikings also outscored the Knights 22-12 at the free throw line.
Babinec led MLC with 20 points on 6-11 shooting, and added seven rebounds. Amanda Burk added eight points and six rebounds.
Bethany finished with four players in double figures, led by Jessica Englund, who scored 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-8 overall, and 0-1 in the UMAC, while Bethany improved to 5-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, January 14, when they travel to Northland for a 5:30 p.m. game.
