Season Ends with Loss to Cougars
MORRIS, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team saw its season end with a 73-54 loss to Minnesota, Morris in the in the first round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament Wednesday night.
The Knights trailed 40-34 at the half, with Erica Babinec keeping the team in the game with 21 points in the half on 9-15 shooting.
The Cougars put the clamps on Babinec in the second half, holding her without a point on 0-5 shooting from the field after the break, helping them put the Knights on their heels.
UMM took control of the game early in the second half with a 12-2 run, opening up a double digit lead it would hold the rest of the game on the way to the win and advancing to the championship game.
Babinec finished with 21 points on 9-20 shooting for the game, and also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Sarah Free joined her in double figures with ten points.
The Cougars finished the game with five players in double figures, led by Emily Mehr's 15 points, and shot 48.4 percent from the floor. They held MLC to 36.8 percent shooting, and also forced 18 turnovers.
With the loss, MLC finished the season at 10-15, while UMM improved to 20-6 on the season.
