MLC Women Roll to Win over Storm
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team took care of business Friday night against Crown with an 83-46 win to give themselves a chance for a home game in the first round of the UMAC Tournament next week.
The Storm entered the game without a conference win, but battled to a 10-10 tie through the first six minutes of play.
It would be all MLC from that point, however as the Knights went on a 27-5 run over the next nine minutes to blow the game open, and then built its lead as big as 43 points in the second half on the way to the win.
The Knights finished with four of their five starters in double figures, led by 12 points from Leah Nass, Alex Anthon and Brittney Gossen. MLC finished the night shooting 50.8 percent from the field, and held Crown to 26.2 percent on the other end.
The depth of the MLC bench would show throughout the game, as the MLC bench outscored the Storm bench 31-6, and 12 of the 13 players who entered the game for MLC scored at least two points.
With the win, the Knights remained in a three-way tie for the second seed in the conference with just one game left to play. The Knights have a chance to become the second seed, but needs a win over Minnesota-Morris Saturday afternoon to keep those hopes alive.
MLC improved to 13-11 overall and 10-3 in the UMAC with the win, while Crown fell to 1-21 on the season and 0-13 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will host UMM tomorrow (Saturday, February 22) at 3 p.m.
