MLC Women Pick up First Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season its home opener against Dakota State by the score of 71-59 Saturday afternoon.
MLC took control of the game midway through the first half after a back-and-forth start on the way to a nine-point lead at halftime. The Knights gained the advantage with their defense, forcing 16 DSU turnovers in the first 20 minutes, and holding the Trojoans to 39.3 percent shooting.
Dakota State started the second half on a 12-2 run to take the lead, but the Knights responded by taking the lead right back, and then building it as high as 15 with 7:36 to play on the way to the double-digit victory.
The Knights finished with three players in double figures, led by 19 from Hannah Hackbarth. Hannah Rothe and Brittney Gossen each had ten points.
MLC received strong contributions of its bench, as Sara Willems and Leah Nass each had nine points and grabbed five rebounds, and also provided energy on the glass and the defensive end of the floor.
The Knights finished the game with 18 turnovers, but forced 27 errors by DSU 23 points of Trojan miscues for the game.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-4 on the season, while DSU dropped to 3-5.
MLC will return to action on Monday, December 3, when it travels to Waldorf College. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
