MLC Women Fall 88-74 at Buena Vista
STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team made a run in the second half, but were unable to come all the way back from a big deficit in an 88-74 loss at Buena Vista Tuesday.
The Beavers led 48-37 at the half, and pushed their lead to 61-44 with 13:45 to play in the game before the Knights made a run.
Over the next six minutes, MLC outscored Buena Vista 15-2, pulling to within four points at 63-59 with under eight minutes to play in the game.
Buena Vista would withstand the Knights' run, however, and control things from that point as they built the lead back into double figures before the clock ran out on MLC's chances of a second comeback.
Leah Nass paced the Knights with 18 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor. She also led the team with eight rebounds and three blocks in the contest. Hannah Hackbarth added 14 points, while Erin Schmeling provided a boost off the bench with 12 points, nine assists and five steals.
The Knights were unable to control the Beavers on the glass, as Buena Vista won the rebounding battle 54-30, but were able to hang around thanks to 29 forced turnovers.
MLC fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss, while BVU improved to 5-3 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, December 6, when they host Wartburg in a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
