MLC Women Cruise to Win over Storm
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team never trailed in a 68-30 win over Crown Saturday.
The Knights finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc, but it was the defense that led the way, holding Crown to 19.4 percent shooting for the game and forcing 23 turnovers.
MLC finished the first half with a 16-point lead at 28-12, holding Crown to 5-31 shooting (16.1 percent).
The offense came alive for the Knights in the second half, with MLC shooting 56.7 percent overall and making four of five attempts from three-point range. First-year guard Karlie Kohlmeier had a big half in her debut with the team, scoring nine points on three consecutive three-pointers to help put the game away.
Hannah Hackbarth finished as the team's high scorer with 14 points on 6-8 shooting, while Johannah Crass added a season-high 12 points off the bench. Alex Anthon played a strong all-around game, grabbing six rebounds, dishing out six assists and finishing with five steals to go with her six points.
With the win, MLC improved to 6-12 on the season and 4-3 in UMAC play, while Crown dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, January 29, when they host Bethany Lutheran for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
