MLC Women Beat Northland 56-49
ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to three by beating Northland 56-49 Saturday night.
The Knights led much of the way, trailing twice for a combined 35 seconds of game action in the first half, and were able to keep a small but comfortable lead for much of the game.
MLC trailed 12-11 with 9:33 to play in the first half, but closed the half on an 18-9 run to take a 29-21 lead into the break. Hannah Hackbarth paced the Knights in the opening stanza, scoring ten points on 4-5 shooting from the field.
The Lumberjills made a run to start the second half, cutting the MLC lead to 37-36 midway through the half, but the Knights responded with a 12-0 run, holding Northland scoreless for more than six minutes before holding on down the stretch for the win.
Hackbarth finished as the leading scorer for MLC with 17 points. She made seven of her ten attempts from the field, including both attempts from beyond the three-point arc.
Joining Hackbarth in double figures was Alex Anthon, who scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Hannah Rothe led MLC on the glass with seven rebounds.
With the win, MLC improved to 8-12 on the season and 6-3 in UMAC play, while Northland dropped to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, February 2, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
