Knights' Second Half Comeback Falls Short
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team's comeback attempt against Buena Vista came up short in a 76-71 loss Monday night.
MLC fell behind 13 points at the half due to a sloppy ballhandling (18 turnovers) and poor shooting from the free throw line (4-14 shooting), but were able to stay in the game by forcing 16 turnovers of their own.
After a quick start from the Beavers pushed the MLC deficit to 16 points at 47-31 with 19 minutes to play, the Knights came back with a 15-2 run over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to three at 49-46.
The Knights continued to battle throughout the half, holding on through several Beaver runs, but were never able to get closer than three points the rest of the way.
MLC had one opportunity to tie the game with 1.7 seconds to play, but a turnover on the inbounds play sealed the win for Buena Vista.
Amanda Burk continued her strong start for MLC with a team-high 23 points on 9-15 shooting, and also grabbed nine rebounds. Erica Babinec joined her in double figures with 19 points, while Sarah Free added 12 points.
Defensively, MLC finished the game with eight blocks, and forced 28 turnovers. Emily Boldt led the defense down low with five blocks in the game.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-3 on the year, while Buena Vista improved to 3-1.
MLC will return to action on Monday, November 29, when it travels to UW-River Falls for a 7 p.m. game.
