Knights Pull Away in Second Half
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team turned a two-point halftime lead into a ten-point win at North Central Tuesday by a score of 61-51.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, as the Knights shot 25 percent (9-36) from the field, but held a 23-21 halftime edge because their defense held the Rams to just 23.1 percent shooting in the half.
MLC created some distance in the second half, shooting 45.2 percent from the field in the final stanza. Erica Babinec and Sarah Free finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the second half.
Free finished with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds, while Babinec added 15 points, ten rebounds and six assists. Emily Boldt helped lead the defensive effort with four blocked shots.
With the win, MLC improved to 9-13 on the season, while North Central dropped to 9-12 overall.
MLC will return to action Friday (February 18), when it hosts Crown for a double header of men's and women's basketball starting at 5:30 p.m.
