Knights Get Conference Title Split with Win
ST. PAUL – The MLC women’s basketball team finished off a historic regular season with an 88-60 win at Northwestern Saturday, securing a tie for the UMAC regular season championship.
MLC dominated the game throughout, holding a double digit lead for most of the final 30 minutes of play.
The Knights finished the game shooting 58.7 percent from the field compared to 38 percent from Northwestern, and also put four different players in double figures.
Amanda Burk had her tenth double-double of the season for MLC in the win, finishing with 22 points and ten rebounds and making ten of her 12 shots from the floor in just 19 minutes of action.
Erica Babinec added 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Brittney Gossen and Kirsten Michael had 11 and ten points, respectively. Gossen also had a big day creating shots for others, setting a new career high with eight assists.
With the win, MLC finished the regular season 18-7 overall and 12-2 in conference play, tying Minnesota-Morris for the regular season crown.
Because the two teams were tied through every tie-breaker, a coin toss was needed to decide the number one seed in the tournament, which was won by MLC.
MLC will host Bethany in the first round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, February 22, at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to check the MLC athletics website for additional information leading up to that date.
