Knights Fall to Vikings
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end in an 80-65 loss at Bethany Saturday night.
MLC was able to make just seven field goals in the first half, but was able to stay within striking distance at 42-31 because six of those field goals came from the beyond the three-point line. The Knights also made 11 of their 13 attempts from the free throw line.
Erica Babinec (Onalaska, Wis./Luther) led the Knights at the half with 11 points, eight of which came from the charity stripe, while Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) and Kadie Drake (Adrian, Mich./Madison HS) each added six points on two three-pointers.
The Knights were never able to get close in the second half, despite holding Bethany to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor after the break. The Viking lead swelled as high as 26, making the Knights' late comebacks too difficult.
Free finished with a game-high 22 points for the Knights on 7-12 shooting from the field and 5-7 shooting from downtown. Babinec added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Emily Boldt (Mukwonago, Wis./LPS) finished with six blocks off the bench.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in UMAC play, while Bethany improved to 8-11 on the year and 3-5 in league action.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, February 2, when they host North Central for a 5:30 p.m. game.[BOX SCORE]
