First Half Run Leads to Loss for MLC Women
MENOMNIE, Wis. - The MLC women's basketball team was unable to overcame a big run to end the first half in an 80-60 loss at UW-Stout to close the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout Sunday afternoon.
The Knights trailed 22-14 with 8:53 to play in the first half, but the Blue Devils went on a 17-4 run over the next 6:39 to take a commanding 21-point lead before MLC cut the deficit to 16 at 41-25 heading into the half.
MLC played tough in the second half, cutting the deficit to nine on two different occasions, but was never able to get any closer down the stretch.
Brittney Gossen led MLC offensively with 20 points, while Hannah Hackbarth added 15 points. Alex Anthon had ten points and a team-best eight rebounds.
The Knights' defense held Stout to 38.6 percent shooting from the field, but were unable to overcome 25 turnovers which led to 20 Blue Devil points.
MLC dropped to 0-3 to start the season with the loss, while UW-Stout improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, November 28, when they travel to Viterbo for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
