Eagles Take Down Knights
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women's team was out-rebounded by 26 for the day in a 68-44 loss to Northwestern Friday night.
Neither team was sharp on the offensive end, as the Eagles finished with a 37.5 percent night from the floor, while the Knights finished shooting 28.3 percent. Both teams also struggled with turnovers, with Northwestern turning it over 19 times, compared to the Knights' 17 turnovers.
Northwestern started out slowly, but continued to build a lead in the first half with the hot shooting of forward Katie DeWitt. DeWitt finished the first half with 14 of the Eagles' 34 points as they led the Knights 34-21 at the break.
The second half proved to be more of the same for the Knights, as they still had no answer for DeWitt, who scored 13 more after the break as the Eagles pushed the lead out of reach. She finished the night with 27 points on 10-16 shooting (including 5-10 from beyond the three-point arc), and also added ten rebounds.
MLC was led by Erica Babinec (Onalaska, Wis./Luther), who had 12 points and ten rebounds. Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) joined her in double figures with ten points, while Amanda Selle (Appleton, Wis./FVL) added eight off the bench.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the season, while Northwestern improved to 6-7 and 2-1 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Jan. 9) when they host Crown for a 3 p.m. game.[BOX SCORE]
