Defense Leads MLC Women to Win at NCU
MINNEAPOLIS - The MLC women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to beat North Central 65-42 Saturday afternoon.
The Knights held the Rams to 31 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers in the game. MLC finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the field.
MLC was led by center Hannah Rothe, who finished with a team-best 18 points and ten rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She also finished with four steals.
The Knights controlled the game from the start, trailing only once by the score of 6-5 before making a run to take a 30-21 lead into the break.
The second half would be more of the same for MLC, as the Knights quickly moved the lead into double figures on a three-pointer by Hannah Hackbarth in the opening minute of the half, and never allowed the Rams within single digits the rest of the game on the way to the 23-point win.
Hackbarth finished with 11 points and five assists in support of Rothe's efforts down low, while Johannah Crass came off the bench to score six points and grab eight rebounds, helping MLC's bench outscore the Rams 16-2.
MLC improved to 4-10 on the season and 2-1 in the UMAC with the win, while North Central dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in league play with the loss.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, January 18, when they host St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
