Defense Carries Knights to Win
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC women’s basketball team rode a dominating defensive effort to a 55-19 win over North Central Tuesday night.
The Rams were finished the game 5-60 from the field (8.3 percent), and also turned it over 26 times. MLC shot 33.3 percent for the game and had 12 of the 14 players that played score.
The Knights’ defense dominated the first half, holding North Central without a point until the 6:51 mark of the first half, and without a field goal until there was just 1:57 remaining in the half on the way to a 26-5 halftime lead. The Rams finished the half 1-29 from the floor for a 3.4 percent clip.
The Rams put up more offense in the second half, but weren’t able to keep up the Knights, who outscored them 29-14 in the second half on the way to the easy win.
No MLC player scored in double figures, but Carrie Fritzler (Deford, Mich./MLS) led the way with eight points. Five players added six points, including Katherine Kogler (Fallbrook, Calif./CLHS), who scored six points and grabbed ten rebounds in just 11 minutes of action.
With the win, MLC improved to 6-12 on the season, while North Central dropped to 4-13.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, February 5, when they travel Crown for a 5:30 p.m. game.[BOX SCORE]
