Clutch FT Shooting Helps Woment to First Win
DE PERE, Wis. - The MLC women's basketball team held onto a late lead by making its last ten free throw attempts to beat Dominican 61-57 Saturday afternoon at St. Norbert.
The Knights finished the game 17-19 from the charity stripe, helping offset a 29.8 percent shooting performance from the field.
MLC also played well defensively, holding Dominican to 29.2 percent from the field and forcing 20 turnovers.
Erica Babinec led the Knights with 20 points and added ten rebounds, while Amanda Burk had her second consecutive double-double to start the season with ten points and 12 rebounds.
The Knights dominated on the glass in the game, outrebounding Dominican 56-45. Hannah Rothe came off the bench to grab nine rebounds to go with the two starters in double figures on the glass.
MLC held a three-point lead at the half at 23-20, and never trailed in the second half, building the lead as high as nine early in the half before having to ice the game away with free throws down the stretch after the lead was cut down to one possession.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-1 on the season, while Dominican dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
MLC will return to action on Monday, November 21, when it travels to Buena Vista for a 7 p.m. game.
