Six Points from Gurgel Push MLC Past UMM
NEW ULM, Minn. - Nathan Gurgel scored two goals in the second half against Minnesota, Morris Friday to turn a one-goal deficit into a one-goal win by the score of 4-3.
Gurgel also assisted on the first two goals for MLC, giving him six points for the match.
Steve White put the Knights ahead 1-0 early in the game, but the Cougars responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead.
In the 31st minute of action, Kaleb Buch put home another Gurgel pass to tie the game, but UMM scored once more right before the half to take a 3-2 lead.
With the Knights pressing for offense, Gurgel tied the game in the 71st minute off a John Paustian pass, and then scored the game-winner on a breakaway set up by a Buch pass in the 84th minute of action.
The two teams were very even offensively, as the shots were tied 21-21 for the match, and UMM holding a slight 9-8 edge in shots on goal. MLC goalkeeper Taylor Traeder finished with six saves.
With the win, MLC improved to 6-10-2 overall and 3-8-2 in the UMAC, while the Cougars dropped to 9-6-3 on the season and 8-4-1 in league play.
MLC will play its final game of the season tomorrow (October 30) when it hosts Presentation. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
