Men Stop Skid with Win over Rams
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer team was able to break a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over North Central Tuesday afternoon.
MLC dominated the play for most of the game, outshooting the Rams 38-13 overall and 18-5 on goal.
Nathan Gurgel put the Knights ahead in the 22nd minute of action with an unassisted goal he chipped over the head of the Rams' goalkeeper. The goal was Gurgel's second on the season.
John Paustian added an insurance goal in the 66th minute, rolling home a pass from Levi Dunsmoor to give the Knights a 2-0 lead on his first of the season.
The Rams cut the MLC lead to one goal just two minutes after the Paustian goal, but the Knights held strong the rest of the way for the win.
Goalkeeper Ben Zietlow stopped four of the five shots he faced for the day, while Steve White and Kaleb Buch helped the Knights control the ball, combining for 17 shots.
With the win, MLC improved to 4-5 on the season, while North Central dropped to 1-6-2.
MLC will return to action this Friday, October 8, when they travel to Crown for a 3:30 game.
