Men's Soccer Loses to CSS
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team lost 8-1 to St. Scholastica Saturday.
The Knights were unable to avoid several scoring runs by the Saints, allowing the high-powered CSS offense to take control as the game went along.
MLC trailed 1-0 early in the game, but Ryan Lemke tied the game in the 13th minute to give the Knights some momentum. The goal was Lemke's team-leading fifth of the season.
The Saints would respond, however, scoring in the 23rd minute to take the lead, and then scoring three times in a span of 3:35 starting at the 31:31 mark of the first half to take command of the game.
CSS would pick the scoring back up in 65th minute, and then scored less than two minutes later to push the lead to 7-1. One more final tally by the Saints brought the final 8-1 margin.
Eric Hahn stopped 17 shots in goal for the Knights, while Lemke and Nathan Graumann each had two shots.
The Knights dropped to 4-7 on the season and 3-3 in the UMAC with the loss, while CSS improved to 8-2-2 overall and 7-0-0 in conference play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Thursday, October 10, when it plays at Bethany Lutheran.
