Men Fall Short against Buena Vista
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's soccer jumped out to an early lead, but was unable to hang on in a 2-1 loss to Buena Vista Tuesday.
Ryan Lemke started the scoring for MLC with his first goal of the season in the 16th minute of play, sending home a pass from Colton Berger to put MLC ahead 1-0.
Buena Vista tied the game on a goal by Alex Chavez in the 35th minute, and then scored the game-winner in the 69th minute when Eric Karitz beat goalkeeper Ben Schone on a breakaway to give the Beavers the 2-1 lead they wouldn't give back.
Playing his first game in goal at MLC due to injuries, Schone stopped eight of the ten shots he faced. The Beavers outshot MLC 16-11 for the game, with Kaleb Buch leading MLC with five shots.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-3-0 on the season, while Buena Vista improved to 4-0-1.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, September 14, when they host Northwestern in the conference opener at Knight Field. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
