Seven Knights Named All-UMAC
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The MLC football team had seven players named All-UMAC Thursday, including four players named to the first team.
Running back Aaron Voss, defensive linemen Chuquee Fletcher and Bill Fuerstenau, and linebacker Matt Rothe were named to the first team, while offensive linemen Ben Zuberbier and Taylor Bentz, as well as safety Benjamin Olson were named to the second team.
Voss finished the season fifth in the UMAC with 660 yards rushing with nine touchdowns. During the season, he set new MLC career records in touchdown runs and rushing yards.
Fuerstenau and Fletcher helped anchor a defense that finished second in run defense, and third in total and scoring defense. Fletcher finished with 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks, while Fuerstenau had 23 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.
Rothe finished the season with a team high 77 tackles, the sixth most in the UMAC, despite missing two games due to injury. He also had 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, and one interception.
On the offensive line, Zuberbier and Bentz helped an inexperienced group plow the way for an offense that finished second in total offense and rushing offense.
Olson finished the season second on the team in tackles (60), tackles for loss (3.5), and interceptions (two), and also had three pass break-ups from his safety position.
MLC finished the season 5-4, with a 4-2 record in UMAC play.
