Ewings, Plocher Named First Team All-UMAC
ST. PAUL - Martin Luther College football players Ben Ewings and Micah Plocher were named First Team All-UMAC, while Luke Rothe was named to the second team in a release from the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Ewings set a new MLC single-season record (and also led the UMAC) with 11.0 sacks on the season, including a school-record 4.0 sacks in the season finale at Westminster. The sophomore defensive lineman finished the season third on the Knights with 65 total tackles, and led the team with 16.0 total tackles for loss.
Plocher was the Knights' leading receiver throughout the season, finishing with 45 receptions for 675 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games while playing both tight end and wide receiver. The senior finished the season third in the UMAC in yards per game (75.0) and fourth in touchdown receptions (eight).
Rothe finished his first full season as the Knights' starting quarterback as one of the conference's top dual-threats. The sophomore passed for 1803 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also running for a team-best 817 yards and nine touchdowns. Rothe also showed off his defensive exploits at times during the season, tying for the team lead with two interceptions in limited defensive action.
Sophomore linebacker Nick Kressin was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship throughout the season.
