Second Half Run Pushes MLC to Postseason
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team clinched a spot in the UMAC Postseason Tournament with an 87-57 win over Crown Friday night.
The Knights held a 12-point halftime lead at 35-23, but blew the game open with a 25-5 run in the second half that limited the Storm to just one field goal during the stretch that lasted more than seven minutes, pushing a ten-point lead into a 30-point advantage.
MLC was extremely efficient offensively in the second half, shooting 70.4 percent from the field (19-27). Kaleb Buch helped lead the second half run, scoring eight of his 13 points in the second half.
Galen Holzhueter and Buch led the Knights with 13 points apiece, while Greg Holzhueter and Justin Danell joined them in double figures with 12 and ten points, respectively. Greg Holzhueter also added a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.
With the win, MLC improved to 8-15 overall and 7-6 in the UMAC, guaranteeing a top four seed because they own the tie-breaker over St. Scholastica, which lost Friday at Minn.-Morris to fall to 6-7 in the conference. Crown dropped to 4-19 overall and 4-9 in conference play with the loss.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, February 19), when they host Northwestern for a double header of men’s and women’s basketball starting at 3 p.m. The men's game will start around 5 p.m.
