Saints Run Past Knights Down the Stretch
DULUTH, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team was unable to hold off St. Scholastica down he stretch in an 82-73 loss Saturday evening.
The Knights held a two-point lead at 67-65 with 5:21 to play, but the Saints rattled off eight straight points to start a 17-6 run to close out the game.
The first half featured runs by both teams, with the Knights overcoming an early CSS lead with a 13-0 run before the the Saints made a run before the half to take a 33-29 lead into the break.
The lead went back and forth in the second half, with MLC taking its first lead with 15:36, but never was able to build it higher than five points before the Saints took it for good with 3:35 to play in the game.
Galen Holzhueter finished as the high scorer for MLC with 24 points on 10-19, but struggled with an off night at the free throw line (3-10). Luke Rothe joined Holzhueter added 16 points, while Justin Eternick scored ten points and grabbed nine rebounds.
MLC dropped to 4-17 on the season and 3-7 in UMAC play with the loss, while CSS improved to 7-14 overall and 5-5 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, February 8, when they host North Central in a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
