Offense Explodes in Win over Bethany
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team shot 60.5 percent from the field on a way to an 86-66 win over Bethany Tuesday night.
The MLC offense was particularly efficient in the first half, building an 11-point halftime lead at 48-37 on the strength of 64 percent (16-25) shooting. Galen Holzhueter finished the first half with 16 of his game-high 24 points on 6-10 shooting from the field.
The Knights continued to shoot well in the second half, shooting 55.6 percent from the field, and also went 17-20 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes to extend the lead.
The Knights' defense also came through, holding BLC to 39.3 percent shooting for the game, and forcing 25 turnovers, leading directly to 30 MLC points.
Holzhueter's 24 points set a new career high, and he also added six rebounds. Nathan Bauer added 19 points, while Greg Holzhueter had 18 points, five assists and six steals.
With the win, MLC improved to 5-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Bethany dropped to 8-10 on the season and 5-3 in UMAC action.
MLC will return to action on Friday, February 4, when it travels to Minnesota, Morris for a 7:30 p.m. game.
