MLC Men Lose at Marian
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team lost at Marian College by the score of 79-70 Saturday evening.
Marian took a 16-point lead into halftime at 39-23, and then built its lead up to 26 points (63-37) in the second half before the Knights started to come back.
The Knights cut the deficit into single digits in the final minute thanks to 34 combined second half points from Galen Holzhueter and Luke Rothe, but were not able to cut any closer than seven points before the clock ran out.
Holzhueter finished with a game-high 30 points on 11-17 shooting, with 18 of those points coming in the second half. Luke Rothe added 22 points on 7-14 shooting, and both Holzhueter and Rothe finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
The Knights' comeback came as they shot 57.1 percent from the field after the half, but they were unable to take advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe, making 15 of 28 free throw attempts in the second half.
MLC fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while Marian improved to 1-0 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Thursday, November 21, when they host Viterbo in the home opener. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
