MLC Loses UMAC Opener to BLC
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team lost its conference opener by a score of 80-53 Tuesday night against Bethany.
The Knights struggled offensively against the Bethany pressure defense, shooting 27.4 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc for the game.
Bethany shot 41.1 percent from the field, but also made eight three pointers in the game, and capitalized on a number of offensive rebounding, outscoring the Knights 26-11 in second chance points.
MLC struggled in the first half, shooting 24.1 percent, but stayed within striking distance with an eight-point deficit at 32-24 going into the half.
The Vikings took control in the second half, shooting 46.2 percent from the field and making five three point baskets as they pulled away from the Knights down the stretch.
Galen Holzhueter led the Knights with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the game, while Justin Eternick came off the bench to score 11 points, ten of which came in the first half.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Bethany improved to 3-9 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Friday, January 13, when they face Northland in a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
