Men Unable to Hold Off Dubuque in Loss
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The MLC men's basketball team was unable to hold down the Dubuque offense late in an 84-59 loss Saturday.
MLC trailed by six points with 12 minutes to play, but the Spartans ran away from the Knights from that point to take control.
The Knights trailed by just two points at 26-24 with 8:29 to play in the first half, but Dubuque went into the break on a 14-4 run to take a 40-28 halftime lead.
MLC kept things close to start the second half, and pulled to within six points at 53-47 with 12 minutes remaining, but the Spartans outscored the Knights 31-12 the rest of the way.
Nathan Bauer and Galen Holzhueter led the MLC offense with ten points apiece, while Greg Holzhueter finished with eight off the bench.
Dubuque shot well from the perimeter, going 10-24 from beyond the three-point arc, and also outscored the Knights 16-6 from the free throw line. MLC shot 40 percent from the field for the game, while Dubuque shot 48.3 percent.
MLC dropped to 0-7 on the season with the loss, while Dubuque improved to 4-3 with the win.
MLC will return to action on January 11, when the Knights travel to Bethany for the start of the conference season.
