Men Lose Early Lead in Loss at Presentation
ABERDEEN, S.D. - The MLC men's basketball team held the lead for most of the first half, but was unable to keep it in an 85-79 loss at Presentation Friday night.
The Knights jumped out to a ten-point lead early by the score of 14-4, and controlled most of the first half on the way to a 35-33 halftime lead.
After the two teams traded baskets to start the second half, the Saints took control of the game with a 10-2 run to take a 46-41 lead.
The Saints would never trail the rest of the way, although the Knights were able to cut the lead to four points at 68-64 with 5:40 to play before a Presentation 8-0 run proved too much for MLC to overcome down the stretch.
Galen Holzhueter led the Knights with 26 points on 9-17 shooting from the field, and also added a team-high six rebounds. Justin Danell scored a season-high 19 points, while Josh Danell scored 14.
The Knights took care of the ball for much of the game, committing only five turnovers, but the Saints overcame a tough shooting start to shoot 45.8 percent from the field, and also made nine three-pointers on the day.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-13 on the season and 0-4 in the UMAC, while Presentation improved to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 21) when it travels to Minnesota, Morris to play a 5 p.m. game.
