Knights Lose 79-59 at UMM
MORRIS, Minn. – The MLC men’s basketball team was unable to get enough going offensively or on the glass in a 79-59 loss at Minnesota, Morris Saturday night.
The Knights shot 35.8 percent for the game, compared to 46.7 percent for UMM, and were also outrebounded 53-25 in the game.
UMM took the lead early in the game and built a lead as big as 18 points in the first half before a late run by MLC cut the deficit to 12 points at 38-26 at the half. Galen Holzhueter scored 11 points for the Knights in the half.
In the second half, the Cougars were able to slow Holzhueter down, holding him to two points in the final 20 minutes while they added to the lead, helping them run away down the stretch.
Holzhueter finished with a team-high 13 points, while Ben Edmundson came off the bench to score ten points with the help of a pair of three-pointers. Craig Wilke was the next leading scorer with nine, and also added five rebounds and three assists.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-14 on the season and 0-5 in the UMAC, while UMM improved to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, January 24, when it travels to North Central for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
