Knights Break Streak with Win over Presentation
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team broke a season-long winless streak with a 73-69 win over Presentation Saturday night.
MLC dominated the first half, shooting 55 percent from the field and committing only two turnovers on the way to taking a 44-30 halftime lead.
Justin Eternick and Craig Wilke led MLC in that stretch, with Eternick scoring ten points on 4-6 shooting from the field, while Wilke scored 11 points on 3-5 shooting and also dished out four assists.
Presentation made things difficult in the second half, clawing back in the game on the offensive glass, which led to 16 points in the paint and ten second chance points in the final stanza for the Saints.
The Knights wouldn't back down, however, with Galen Holzhueter and Craig Wilke each finishing strong drives to the basket to give MLC some breathing room before clutch free throw shooting put the game away.
Defensively, the Knights frustrated the Saints for much of the game, forcing Presentation to shoot 39 three-pointers in the game. MLC finished the game shooting 48 percent, and held Presentation to 35 percent.
Wilke finished as the high scorer for MLC with a career-high 16 points off the bench, while Holzhueter had 15 points and a team-best ten rebounds. Justin Danell and Eternick each had 14.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-19 on the season and 1-9 in the UMAC, while Presentation dropped to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in league play.
MLC will return to Friday, February 10, when it travels to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m..
