Cougars Run Past Knights with Second Half Run
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team was overwhelmed by a second half run by Minnesota Morris in a 92-52 loss Friday night.
The Knights hung tough in the first half on the way to a 38-32 halftime deficit. UMM took advantage of an 11-4 edge on the offensive glass, leading to a 7-2 edge in second chance points and a 21-14 advantage in points in the paint.
The second half was one to forget for the Knights, as the Cougars lit the scoreboard up by shooting 61.8 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from beyond the three-point line, while MLC shot 23.7 percent from the field and 5.9 percent from beyond the arc. In total, the Cougars outscored the Knights 54-20 after the break to finish with the final margin.
Luke Rothe and Galen Holzhueter finished with 11 points apiece to lead the Knights, who shot 33.3 percent from the field overall.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 2-15 on the season and 1-5 in the UMAC, while UMM improved to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 26, when they host Crown for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
