Big Start Key to MLC Win at Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The MLC men's basketball team led the entire game at Crown on the way to a 75-68 win, giving the Knights four wins in their last five games.
MLC jumped out to an 11-0 lead, with Justin Eternick scoring five points and Nate Bauer adding four during the stretch. Crown's first basket came more than four minutes into the game, but the early run was enough to help the Knights hold off the Storm throughout the half and take a 34-29 halftime lead.
The Knights finished the first half shooting 50 percent (15-30) from the floor, while holding Crown to 34.4 percent (11-32) shooting.
The Storm hung around throughout the second half, cutting the MLC lead to two points on several occasions, but the Knights held them off by taking care of the ball, committing only three turnovers in the second half, and then iced the game away at the free throw line by making 16 of 22 attempts in the last stanza.
MLC finished with four players in double figures, led by Josh Danell's 19 points on 6-8 shooting from the field. Danell also finished with a game-high ten rebounds, and went 7-8 from the charity stripe. Galen Holzhueter finished with 14 points, while Greg Holzhueter and Eternick added 13 and 12, respectively.
With the win, MLC improved to 4-12 overall and 3-4 in the UMAC, while Crown dropped to 2-14 on the season and 2-5 in league action.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, February 1, when they host Bethany for a double header of men's and women's action starting at 5:30 p.m., with the men starting sometime around 7:30 p.m.
